Who is Dr. Bobby and how is he having a positive impact on the medical industry?
Dr. Babak Hassid, otherwise known as Dr. Bobby, is a New York-based cardiologist at Northwell Health. Not only is he a highly respected doctor, but he is also an inventor. Dr. Bobby realized that there is a problem when a surgeon is working in a cath lab; the lead vest that must be worn is extremely heavy and wears on the surgeon, expending energy and making the surgery much more difficult. To counter this problem, Dr. Bobby resolved to create an invention that would take the weight of the vest off of the surgeon, while also allowing the mobility necessary for the surgeon to be successful.
Estes Design and Manufacturing is proud to have played a crucial role throughout the process of the invention’s prototyping and production. We decided to ask Dr. Bobby a few questions, so that we can better understand how to achieve our fullest potential in helping with the prototyping process. We also aim to review and analyze our performance throughout this project. You will find his responses to our questions below.
Q&A with Dr. Bobby
1. Thinking back to your initial search process, how did you first discover Estes?
By luck! It all started when I began to work with an engineering group. After completing the plan and paperwork, it was time to build the product and get it to the point where it could be manufactured. The engineering group said they couldn’t help in this regard. So, I did a search and found many recommendations to work with Estes. I set up a meeting, and the first person I talked to with the company was Larry McNew, whom I found to be an extremely nice person and, most importantly, was willing to listen. After this, I began what has now been a long standing relationship with Estes.
2. What interests you about working with Estes for this solution?
Initially, my invention was pretty complex to develop. It was not necessarily the technology of it that made it complex, but to make it small and compact enough to use in the operating room was a challenge. Estes understood this challenge and was willing to take it to the next level and to continue with it. The company was not of the attitude “we can’t do this, that won’t work” but instead was very understanding and open. This helped me develop trust and a strong relationship moving forward.
3. How would you describe the interactions that you have with Estes so far?
Most of my interactions take place in the form of one-on-one meetings or phone calls, but I have also been a part of group meetings throughout my time working with Estes. In group meetings, information is relayed well and there are good interactions within the team. I have found that this strong communication internally makes it much easier for me.
4. Have you worked with other companies similar to Estes in the past? If so, what has differentiated Estes from your past experiences?
No, because I didn’t need to. I would say that I got lucky – it’s like finding love in high school. Estes is my high school sweetheart, I didn’t date anyone else after.
5. In what ways does this prototype help you in taking this product to market?
I want the product to be user-friendly and seamless for the operators. As of now, we are working on changes to make this possible.Once the changes are made and we get all the kinks out, it will be amazing to see the progress from when we began to where we are now. We have moved from concept to production through the course of 4-5 iterations of the product.
Estes Design and Manufacturing is proud of our relationship with Dr. Bobby and our involvement in his invention. We truly believe that it will have a strong positive impact in the medical field, and are excited for next steps. If you have a product that you would like to prototype please Request a Quote.
